New Delhi, Nov 19: IPS officer PC Baranda resigned from his post on Wednesday (November 15) to pursue a political career. Just 48 hours after his resignation was accepted by the Gujarat government, Baranda’s name was included in the first list of 70 candidates that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released on Friday.

While Baranda has been thanking his luck, people close to him revealed that the 2007-batch promotee IPS officer decided to take the political plunge only after being assured a ticket by top BJP leaders.

Baranda said he has full faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and would like to serve his region, which lacks development due to a Congress MLA. Congress’s Anil Joshiara won the seat in 2012.

“People of my region are still deprived of development because of the Congress MLA. There are many more development works which needs to be done in that area,” Baranda said.

“I have full faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s agenda of development and I will serve my people keeping in mind the BJP’s philosophy of ‘Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas (collective efforts, inclusive growth),” the 58-year-old officer added.

The BJP on Friday released its first list of candidates for the Gujarat elections, to be held in two phases on December 9 and 14.

The list comprises 70 candidates for elections to the 182-member Gujarat Assembly.

The party has named Chief Minister Vijaybhai Rupani as its candidate from Rajkot West. Deputy Chief Minister Nitinbhai Patel will contest from Mahesana and state party president Jitubhai Vaghani from Bhavnagar West.
