Ahmedabad, Nov 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be campaigning in the Kutch district in Saurashtra region on Monday ahead of Gujarat Assembly elections 2017 this December. The Saurashtra and Kutch districts are considered crucial for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which alone count for 54 seats in Gujarat Assembly. The saffron party made a successful dent in Congress’ bastion by winning three out of six seats in the district in previous elections. But will it win rest of the seats in these elections is a question for which every political analyst is seeking answers?

Saurashtra has its own set of problems. Shortage of water supply along with bad state of roads and drainage is likely to hit the party too. An analysis of previous three assembly elections suggests that KHAM formula has worked for the Congress. Congress leader Madhavsinh Solanki is credited with bringing Kshatriya, Harijan, Adivasi, and Muslim (KHAM) communities together in its fold.

Although the saffron party is claiming to win 150 seats, it is evident the its path to power in Gujarat passes through Saurashtra.
