New Delhi, October 12: Congress on Thursday attacked the Election Commission for not announcing the Gujarat election dates. Chief spokesperson of Congress, Randeep Singh Surjewala alleged that Modi government is trying to delay the Gujarat elections by putting pressure on Election Commission as the Congress apprised people of the failure of BJP government in the dry state.
” The saffron party is trying to lure voters just before elections and we will not let them succeed. We want the Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh elections to be held in the month of November and in both states and appeal that the Model code of conduct should be applied in both the states,” said Surjewala.
In a video, the 50-year-old stated the date of Gujarat elections was not announced as Prime Minister Modi is going there on the 16th of October and if today the dates would have surfaced then model code of conducted would have been applied and with this, PM would not have the power to lure voters with his fake promises.
The Election Commission of India must answer to the people of the country that why the dates of Gujarat elections wasn’t announced today, added Surjewala.
The Himachal Pradesh elections would be held on November 9 and the date of counting would be December 18. Achal Kumar Joti, the Chief Election Commissioner, said that VVPAT machines would be used for Himachal Pradesh elections.
For the Himachal Pradesh elections, the EC said: “The last date of filing of nomination is October 23, 2017. The last date of scrutiny of nominations is October 24. The last date of withdrawal of candidature is October 26. The poll procedure will be over by December 20.”
The dates of Gujarat elections were not announced but the EC informed that it would be held before December 18.
After the press conference of EC, chief minister of HP- Virbhadra Singh told ANI that elections is mainly against BJP and his party knows their strengths and weaknesses, adding, ” They are relying on PM Modi and we are self-reliant.
