Heart of Asia summit: Sartaj Aziz meets NSA Ajit Doval, optimism grows about resumption of India-Pakistan ties
On Saturday Sartaj Aziz arrived at Amritsar airport almost 15 hours earlier than expected where he was welcomed by Indian authorities.
New Delhi, December 4: Pakistan Foreign Affairs Adviser Sartaj Aziz on Saturday night met with National Security Advisor Sartaj Aziz on the sidelines of Heart of Asia summit held in Amritsar. The brief conversation between Aziz and Doval didn’t have much impact in the overall summit but optimism on India-Pakistan ties has grown after the meeting.
Sartaj Aziz while talking to media personnel said, “Pakistan is building its national rail and energy transmission network to meet with growing regional transport needs. Focus is on modern, state of the art infrastructure including through China-Pakistan Economic Corridor”.
On Saturday night, Sartaj Aziz arrived at Amritsar airport almost 15 hours earlier than expected where the special arrangement was made to welcome for the Advisor of Pak Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Pak officials said that morning fog was one reason for Aziz’s early arrival but it can be clearly seen that Pakistan is desperate for bilateral talks which are kept on hold for over a year.
Some report suggests that Sartaj Aziz wanted to be in Amritsar before dinner as he was seeking to meet Indian leaders, especially Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Also Read – Heart of Asia summit: PM Modi, Ashraf Ghani strengthen India-Afghan bilateral deal, additional 1 billion dollars added
On Saturday evening Sartaj Aziz and Ajit Doval had a brief conversation along the sidelines of the dinner hosted by Ministry of external Affairs for the visiting leaders. Sartaj Aziz was served at dinner table number two when he was joined by Doval and MOS External Affairs MJ Akbar. However, reports suggest that there was merely a handshake and exchange of pleasantries between Aziz and Doval while they walk ‘for about 100 feet’ only.
It is still not clear what transpired the leaders of India and Pakistan when they shook hands or was it just an awkward meeting between them.
But after the brief meeting at the Heart of Asia conference, there is buzz that Pakistan is giving indications to begin a fresh round of talks. On the other hand, India maintained that terror and talks cannot go together
