Gujarat Assembly Elections 2017: BJP Wins Himatnagar, Idar, Prantij; Congress Wins Khedbrahma

Ahmedabad, December 18: The counting of votes begins for Gujarat Assembly elections 2017 in Himatnagar, Idar, Khedbrahma and Prantij Assembly constituencies. These constituencies fall under Sabarkantha Lok Sabha constituency and the contest is between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress.
Himatnagar
The constituency number 27, Himatnagar, is a general category seat and is currently held by Congress’s Rajendrasinh Ranjitsinh Chavda. He defeated BJP’s Prafulbhai Khodabhai Patel in 2012 state polls by 12,356 votes. In this elections, Chavda is fighting polls on the BJP ticket and the Congress has fielded Kamleshkumar Jayantibhai Patel.
Idar
The Scheduled Caste reserved constituency number 28, Idar, is being held by BJP’s Raman Lal Vohra. He defeated Congress’s Ramabhai Virchandbhai Solanki by 11,380 votes. The seat is being won by Vohra since 1995 and he increased his votes by in every elections. The BJP has fielded Hiteshbhai Kanodiya and Congress has given the ticket to Manilal Vaghela.
Khedbrahma
The Scheduled Caste reserved constituency number 20, Khedbrahma, was won by Congress’s Ashvin Kotwal in 2012 state polls. He defeated BJP’s Makwana Bhojabhai Hujabhai by over 50,000 votes. Once again, the seat will witness the contest between Congress’s Kotval and BJP’s Ramilaben Becharbhai Bara. In 2007 state polls, Kotval defeated BJP’s Ramilaben.
Prantij
Prantij, constituency number 33, is currently held by Congress’s Mahendrasinh Kacharsinh Baraiya. He defeated BJP’s Jaysinhji Mansinhji Chauhan in 2012 state polls by just 7,000 votes. The Congress has given the ticket to its sitting MLA Baraiya and the BJP is fielding Gajendrasinh Parmar on the seat.
