New Delhi, Oct 12: Opposing the Supreme Court’s order to ban firecrackers across Delhi-NCR till November 1, Yoga-guru Ramdev today said that Hindus are being targeted. Speaking with India TV, Ramdev said that only one community is being targeted while asserting that the way Hindu festivals have come under the radar is wrong.

Speaking to the news channel Ramdev said, “Is it right to taken legal move for everything? I run schools, universities… we permit only hand-held firework that burns slowly… we don’t support firecrackers with high decibels. Ban should be imposed on big firecrackers.” (Also Read: Action Will be Taken Against Those Selling Crackers Online: Delhi Police)

Launching an attack on senior leader Shashi Tharoor for supporting firecracker ban, Ramdev said that an “intelligent man like Tharoor must not talk like this”. Extending his support to the firecracker ban, Tharoor had tweeted: “Bakr-Id sacrifices hurt only goats; Muharram mourners flagellate themselves, but Diwali firecrackers affect celebrants&non-revellers alike.”

On October 9, the Supreme Court restored a ban sale of firecrackers across Delhi-NCR till November 1. In 2016, the apex court had suspended all licences which “permit the sale of fireworks, wholesale and retail within the territory of NCR”. The court had, last year, lifted its earlier order suspending licences for sale of firecrackers. It had said that a complete ban would be an “extreme step” and a stratified step is needed to curb pollution caused by them. “We should see at least in one Diwali the impact of a cracker-free festivity,” the bench headed by Justice A K Sikri said.
