Lucknow, June 19: Preparations are on for the International Day of Yoga 2017 celebration in Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh where thousands including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will participate on Wednesday. On Sunday, a mock security drill was conducted at the Ramabai Ambedkar Maidan ahead of the massive Yoga Day event. On Monday morning, Yogi Adityanath and UP Governor Ram Naik also inspected preparations of Yoga Day celebrations while a full dress rehearsal was also carried out. Over 51,000 people are expected to participate in the Yoga Day event in Lucknow on June 21.

An elaborate security will be in place with commandoes and para-military forces keeping a close watch in and around the venue. “Police chiefs of adjoining districts of Lucknow have also been alerted to take preventive measures, especially in the wake of call given by Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) to stage dharna on highways,” a police official said. Officials of the Lucknow administration said that more than 400 CCTV cameras will be installed.

On May 14 too, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and chief minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed preparations in the presence of AYUSH Minister Shripad Yesso Naik.

Schedule, invitees and more

The main programme for International Day of Yoga in Lucknow will begin at around 6.30 am on Wednesday. Participants will be allowed to enter the venue from 2:30 am to 5 am. “Participants of the programme have been allowed to enter the venue from 2.00 AM to 5.30 AM. Giant LED TV screens will be installed at the programme venue to enable them to have a close look at the yogic postures,” Additional District Magistrate (Lucknow East) Virendra Pandey said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, UP CM Yogi Adityanatha and other ministers will be among those attending the Yoga programme in Lucknow. The Yogi government has sent invites to senior political leaders including former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati, and former chief ministers and governors.

Meanwhile, LED TV screens will also be installed in 11 parks in Lucknow for those who could not make it to Ramabai Ambedkar Maidan.

Other programmes across UP

According to reports, the Samajwadi Party has organised cycle yatras across the state to spread the message of environment conservation on International Day of Yoga. “SP national president Akhilesh Yadav has asked all the district presidents and office-bearers of the party to undertake cycle yatras on Yoga Day to spread the message of environment and health awareness,” SP spokesperson Rajendra Chowdhury said as quoted by PTI. “The leaders of the party will perform Yoga at the district headquarters and the workers will ride bicycles in their constituencies,” he added.

Meanwhile, close to 92,000 inmates lodged in jails across Uttar Pradesh will also be participating in parallel sessions from the prisons itself. Farmers, too, will be performing Yoga on highways.

With tight security in place, PM Modi has also appealed to the people of the country to make this Yoga Day a memorable one. He has asked people to post images of all generations of families perform Yoga together on June 21.
