New Delhi, June 20: With just a day to go for the International Day of Yoga 2017, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory for areas around Connaught Place with a massive event planned at the heart of the city. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu, along with over 10,000 people will be performing Yoga at the Inner Circle of the Connaught Place from 6 am to 7.40 am on Wednesday, June 21.

Traffic Movement in Connaught Place

The inner circle of Connaught Place has been shut for vehicular traffic and parking from 11 pm on Monday, June 19. The inner circle, the Middle Circle and the roads leading from inner to outer circle will remain shut for traffic and parking till 11:30 am on Wednesday. However, shops will remain open and people can walk around the area.

On Yoga Day, i.e., June 21, traffic will be restricted on Outer Circle as well. Traffic on the outer circle will be partially affected from 5 am to 9 am due to the movement of the International Yoga Day event participants.

“The vehicular traffic in Connaught Place’s inner circle will be closed from today 11 pm till 11:30 am of June 21 for preparations and arrangements and organising the event. Shops and pedestrian traffic, however, will remain open but parking lots in the inner circle will be available,” New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) chairman Naresh Kumar said.

Participants

The NDMC will organise the Delhi edition of the International Yoga Day at Connaught Place, its six radials and inner circles, and at three gardens – Lodhi Garden, Nehru Park, Talkatora Garden and Childrens’ Park at India Gate.

Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu will be the chief guest while sports minister Vijay Goel, Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal, Delhi Chief Minster Arvind Kejriwal and New Delhi MP Meenakashi Lekhi will be among the other guests taking part in the event.

Volunteers from organisations like Patanjali Yoga Peetha, Art of Living, Maa Shakti, Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vidyalaya, Gayatri Pariwar, Moraji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), the Delhi Police, the NDMC, the CISF, the CRPF, the BSF, the ITBP, the Walking Volunteers, general public, VVIPs and VIPs would also participate.
