New Delhi, Sept 16: The official website of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) was down on Saturday. However, at around 1.30 pm the website was restored back and the operations could be carried out smoothly.

Earlier in the day, a downtime message was displayed on the site that read, “DUE TO MAINTENANCE ACTIVITY E-TICKETING SERVICE IS NOT AVAILABLE. PLEASE TRY LATER. FOR CANCELLATION/FILE TDR, PLEASE CALL AT CUSTOMER CARE NO. 011-39340000,011-23340000 OR MAIL AT”

As per the information shared by the users on Twitter, the website was reportedly down since Saturday morning and there was no communication about the same on the official Twitter handles of the Ministry of Railways or Railway Minister Piyush Goyal.


In a similar incident, the IRCTC website was down on June 22. Same message was displayed on the website and the mobile app that time as well. Meanwhile, on May 24, too, the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation website was down on Wednesday for over six hours. However, the outage then was communicated to users through Twitter handles of the then Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu and Ministry of Railways.

As per an IRCTC report, the average daily sale of train tickets through the official website is around 5.5 to 6 lakhs. The portal has over 3 crore registered users.
