ISRO to set Guinness record with launch of 103 satellites simultaneously

The International satellites belong to Israel, Kazakhstan, Netherlands, Switzerland, and the United States

New Delhi Jan 6: Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is about to be mentioned in the Guinness record as it is all set to launch 103 satellites in February this year, all at once from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. Out of the 103 satellites; 100 are foreign satellites and three satellites are from India. “We are making a century by launching over 100 satellites at one go,” Te cake quoted S. Somnath, Director of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

The International satellites belong to Israel, Kazakhstan, Netherlands, Switzerland, and the United States. The 3 domestic satellites are Cartosat-2 series weighing 730 kgs as primary payload, INS-IA and INS-1B, weighing 30 kgs.

“These international customer satellites are being launched as part of the commercial arrangement between them and Antrix Corporation Ltd., the commercial arm and (Public Sector Undertaking) PSU under the ISRO,” Jitendra Singh in Loksabha last month. As per reports, earlier ISRO planned to launch 83 satellites in one go, which included 80 foreign satellites and three Indian satellites. However, ISRO shelved that plan and added 20 more satellites to the project.

A. S. Kiran Kumar, ISRO chief, said that the domestic space agency is planning to launch at least five communication satellites along with many more earth observatories in 2017.
