Neemuch, MP, September 17: A Jain couple in Madhya Pradesh’s Neemuch has decided to renounce the world and take the vows of monkhood. They will relinquish a three-year-old daughter, lucrative careers, and property worth Rs 100 crore.
35-year-old Sumit Rathore had worked in the United Kingdom and was now living in Neemuch managing family business. His wife, 34-year-old Anamika is an engineer employed with a mining company.
The couple will seek ‘deeksha’ under the ‘Shwetamber’ sect of the religion on September 23. The function will be held in Surat and the ceremony will be presided over by a Jain monk Sudhamargi Jain Acharya Ramlal Maharaj. Their hair will be plucked out and they will start wearing white robes after that. Currently, the couple has taken a vow of silence to mentally prepare for the transition. Their daughter Ibhya will be taken care of by her grandparents.
According to NDTV, Sumit announced his decision a month back. In spite of initial disagreement, the families supported their decision to adopt monkhood as the way of life.
PTI reported that Sumit and Anamika had decided to adopt monk’s lives when their daughter was just eight-months-old.
“However, the pontiff asked him to seek Anamika’s permission. She not only gave her consent but also expressed desire to become a nun. Their families asked them to rethink, but the couple stood their ground,” Sandip’s cousin said.
