Jammu and Kashmir: BSF martyr Gurnam Singh’s father requests Narendra Modi to give Pakistan befitting reply
Parents of the 26-year-old Gurnam Singh who succumbed to injuries in Pakistani firing demand a separate BSF hospital from Narendra Modi so that every injured jawan gets good treatment.
Srinagar, Oct 23: The 26-year-old Border Security Force jawan, Gurnam Singh who succumbed to injuries in Pakistani firing and his body is being taken for post mortem. Singh was injured on Saturday when Pakistani snipers targeted him in Hiranagar sector of Jammu and Kashmir. Singh was reported to be involved in foiling a major infiltration bid along the international border in Kathua district.
Father of jawan Gurnam Singh, Kulbir Singh in his statement to ANI said that nobody is sad but are in fact happy because his son was a brave jawan and has sacrificed his life for the nation. “We want a good hospital to be in place, where all essential facilities will be present”, he further added. Kulbir Singh also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to give a befitting reply to Pakistan and teach a lesson to the Pakistani Rangers for the constant attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. Mother of BSF jawan said, “Gurnam once said ‘Mumma, don’t cry if I sacrifice my life for the nation’, I said I wont”. Jaswant said only demand from Modi Govt is a separate BSF hospital. “We’re worried abt all our sons and they should get good treatment”, she added. His sister Gurjeet Kaur says “want hospital constructed in the name of my brother Gurnam”.

The brave jawan Gurnam Singh belonged to Bhalesar village of R.S. Pura in Jammu district and was being treated at the Government Medical College and Hospital in Jammu and his condition was said to be critical. Brother Mandeep Singh and and sister,Gurjeet Kour of the deceased trooper have alleged that despite a critical head injury, their brother was not shifted for specialised treatment to a neurological facility outside the state. Chief Medical Officer, Dr Rajinder Thappa, told ANI that Singh’s parents wanted to shift him to AIIMS for better treatment. “Bullet had hit Gurnam Singh’s head and he was being treated in the Intensive Care Unit. Senior doctors were observing him. His parents wanted him to be shifted to AIIMS for better treatment. We were about to do that yesterday, but unfortunately he passed away.”
The BSF in its statement said, “Today in Hira Nagar Sector, Pakistani rangers injured one BSF trooper. The jawan was identified as Constable Gurnam Singh. He was evacuated and his condition is critical”. After being hit in a sniper attack by Pakistani forces, Gurnam was evacuated to Jammu, 90 km from Kathua, while his colleagues provided cover with retaliatory firing at Pakistan.(ALSO READ: Take injured BSF jawan abroad for treatment, demands family)
The BSF jawans on Friday launched a counterattack after Pakistan violated the ceasefire and gunned down seven 7 Pakistani rangers, one terrorist in retaliatory fire along the International Border in Hiranagar sector on Friday. However, Pakistan army denied any casualties on their side. BSF has been keeping a vigil along the Line of Control following reports of possible infiltration.
