Srinagar, Mar 24: Two terrorists were gunned down in an encounter with the security personnel in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on late Friday night. The gunfight broke out in Dooru area. Arms and ammunition have also been recovered from the militants.

“In an encounter in Shishitergam Police station Dooru Anantnag; today morning two bodies of terrorists have been recovered along with two AK47s, pistols, grenades and arms and ammunition.Efforts are on to identify the bodies. Operation concluded”, tweets J&K DGP SP Vaid.

Earlier on March 21, at least five jawans were martyred and five terrorists were killed in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district. Of the five jawans who sacrificed their lives, three belonged to the Army and two Jammu and Kashmir police. Four terrorists were killed on Tuesday, while the body of the fifth terrorist was recovered on Wednesday.

The gunfight broke out inside Halmatpora forest area of the district on Tuesday evening (March 21). The policemen killed in the gunfight have been identified as Deepak Pandit and Muhammad Yusuf.

During the encounter, additional forces were rushed to the site to cordon off the area. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti paid tribute to the security personnel killed in the Kupwara encounter. Expressing solidarity with the bereaved families of the deceased, she prayed for peace to the departed souls.
