Jammu and Kashmir: PDP MP Nazir Ahmad Laway’s house set ablaze by angry mob in Kulgam
Civilian anger again seemed to be boiling in the state after an 18-year-old class 12 student Danish Mazoor was killed by government forces in Nadihal Village in Baramulla district.
Srinagar, August 31: A mob attacked the house of Rajya Sabha Member from the People’s Democratic Party, Nazir Ahmad Laway on Wednesday evening, destroying part of the house. The mob torched the guard room and other parts of Laway’s house located in Kulgam area of the Valley, which has been gripped by violence and tensions for the past 2 months. Initial reports suggested that considerable damage had been caused to the house. However, no casualties were reported as luckily the house was empty during when it was attacked. This came mere days after curfew was lifted from large parts of the Valley, after some semblance of peace seemed to returning to the State.

According to a report in Firstpost, hundreds of people gathered t Ladoora Chowk in Rafiabad area of Baramulla on Wednesday morning , to protest against the killing and the BJP-PDP government in the state, lead by Mehbooba Mufti. Protesters also alleged that apple-laden trucks were not being allowed to move towards the Sopore fruit Mandi. Army was restricting the trucks’ movements as a precautionary measure. Angered by the apparent ‘high handedness’ of the government, protesters soon started pelting stones at an Army convoy. ALSO READ: Teenager killed in fresh Kashmir violence
The convoy was passing through the highway in Baramulla, when several youhts from amongst the protesters started pelting stones at their truck. At least six people were injured, after the Army personnel opened fire at the crowd. Mazoor was one of them. All the injured were rushed to the hospital. Mazoor succumbed to his injuries even before they could take him to the hospital. Adil Ahamad, Manzoor’s cousin told Firstpost, “He had left with his friends in the morning, after protests started, raising slogans in a nearby village. Everyone came back safe but only he came back in a coffin.”
