Jat reservation row: Jats to not celebrate Holi and to place siege on Delhi
The protesters said that they would lay complete siege on National Highway-1 (Sonipat-Delhi), 10 (Rohtak-Delhi), and 8 (Rewari-Delhi) to press for their demand for Jat reservation.
New Delhi, Feb 27: After the ‘Black Day’, the All India Jat Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) announced that they will not celebrate Holi and will lay seize on Delhi after the festival. The protesters said that they would lay complete siege on National Highway-1 (Sonipat-Delhi), 10 (Rohtak-Delhi), and 8 (Rewari-Delhi) to press for their demand for Jat reservation. The protesters have also decided to intensify their agitation by following a Gandhi-like non-cooperation movement from March 1.
Donning everything black, the Jat protesters- including elders, women and supporters of controversial Godman Rampal- reached the Jassia sit-in and laid a siege at National Highway-71A from Rohtak to Gohana. Following the protests, the operations at Makdoli toll plaza were suspended.
Jat leader Yashpal Malik asked the protesters to refrain from shopping to target the business community and the establishments who have not carried the message for Jat demands. The Jat community also attacked the NJP government for not withdrawing the criminal cases. Attacking the BJP, Malik said that if “the ruling regime was so serious about upholding the law of the land, then why action was not taken against BJP workers in the past 12 months. “BJP workers were directly involved in triggering tension and attack on the Jat community, but action against them has been missing, and the government pretends to have no knowledge about it,” alleged Malik.
The protesting community has also decided to surround Parliament and the date for that would be announced on March 2. On March 2, the Delhi and UP Jats would protest at Jantar Mantar. Malik has also appealed to the protesters to be ready for the Delhi siege after Holi. “About 50,000 protesters would enter Delhi on March 2, and five crore after Holi, leaving no space for others on that day,” said Malik.
To intensify their protest even more, Malik asked the dairy farmers from Haryana to not provide milk to Delhi for a day to create scarcity. Appealing to protesters to be ready for a Delhi siege, Malik said the date of surrounding parliament would be announced on March 2, in which Delhi and Uttar Pradesh Jats would protest at Jantar Mantar.
As part of the protests, the protesters have also been asked to not pay their power and water bills to press their reservation demands in government jobs. The AIJASS adopted eight resolutions on ‘Balidan Diwas’, observed in memory of those killed in last year’s agitation. Nearly 30 people were killed and about 300 injured in the violence that started on February, 2016. The four-day clashes also had looting and clashes between different communities.
