Chennai, Dec 4: Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa who earlier in the day was reported to be recovered completely, suffered a cardiac arrest late on Sunday evening and has been in a critical condition. The news of the AIADMK leader suffering a cardiac arrest came on the day her being discharged from the Apollo Hospital here seemed like a formality. Maharashtra Governor – who is also holding the additional charge of Tamil Nadu is rushing to Chennai after speaking to the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. He is likely to visit the hospital where ailing Tamil Nadu chief minister is undergoing treatment. We will be updating live on health condition of Jayalithaa. Apollo Hospital issued a statement stating that Jayalaithaa suffered a heart attack at 5 PM. The health update resulted in panic among the supporters and senior party leaders rushed to the hospital. “The Hon’ble Chief Minister who is undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospitals, Greams road, Chennai, suffered a cardiac arrest this evening. She is being treated and monitored by a team of experts including Cardiologists, Pulminologist and the Critical Care Specialists,” said Apollo Hospitals.

As the news of Jayalaitha suffering a cardiac arrest spread, huge number of AIADMK supporters rushed to the hospital and were praying for their beloved leader. Jayalalithaa was rushed to the hospital in the wee hours in September and it was reported that she suffered a cardiac arrest after dehydration and fever. The AIADMK leader was on ventilator support for weeks after developing respiratory complications.
