Srinagar, July 18: An Army major of Rashtriya Rifles was shot dead allegedly by a jawan in Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir, reported ANI. According to initial report, the Army officer was shot dead after dispute at a post near Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. The dispute reportedly took place over using cellphone on duty in a sensitive area.
According to a NDTV report, Major Shikhar Thapa from 8 Rashtriya Rifles was shot dead by Naik Kathiresan G. Major Thapa was posted at Bucher near the LoC. The jawan opened fire at Thapa reportedly after an altercation following a dispute. Major Thapa died on the spot. More details are awaited.
The Rashtriya Rifles, a counter-insurgency force, is a branch of the Indian Army. The force is currently deployed in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
