New Delhi, August 1: All ranks of Chinar Corps on Sunday paid homage to martyrs Sepoy Ilayaraja P and Sepoy Gawai Sumedh Waman in a solemn ceremony at BB Cantt in Jammu and Kashmir who were martyred by the bullets of terrorists on Saturday night. Officials of state government and security officials also marked their attendance.
Security forces on Saturday launched a cordon and search operation after they received inputs of terrorists hiding in Avneera village of Zainapora area in Shopian district. The forces were conducting a search operation the militants opened fire. The security forces retaliated strongly. Five soldiers were injured in the fierce gun battle who were rushed to 92 Base Hospital of the Army for treatment and Ilayaraja, Waman succumbed to injuries.
Three terrorists were killed on Sunday, said the police. “Three militants have been killed in the encounter at Zainapora in Shopian,” Director General of Police (DGP), S P Vaid said.
Vaid said the identity and group affiliation of the slain militants is being ascertained.
