Srinagar, Aug 12: A woman was killed in the shelling from Pakistan side in Mendhar sector of Jammu and Kashmir during wee hours on Saturday. As per reports, Pakistan violated ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Mendhar sector around 5.30 am and the Indian Army retaliated strongly to the intermittent firing.

“The 45-year-old woman Raqia Begum was a resident of upper Golat in Mendhar,” said Mendhar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Riyaz Tantray was quoted as saying by ANI.

Earlier on Friday, Pakistan had violated ceasefire at 6.25 pm at Kamalkote in Uri distirict of Jammu and Kashmir. No report of casualty was reported in the incident whereas, on Monday, Pakistani soldiers fired along the LoC at Indian posts in Baramullah’s Silikoot area in which a jawan was injured. On July 23,  Pakistan violated ceasefire in Baramulla district of J&K, but no loss of life was reported.

Pakistan on Thursday accused Delhi of violating ceasefire over 600 times this year. It also claimed that the incidents have resulted into the death of 34 Pakistani civilians. Notably, Foreign Office spokesman Nafees Zakaria also accused India of trying to change the demography of the valley by allowing non-Kashmiris to settle in the state.

Meanwhile, in a separate provocation on Friday night, terrorists attacked 42 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) headquarter in the forest area of Kalaroose Kupwara district of north Kashmir. A soldier was reportedly injured in the attack. As per the latest reports, he has been shifted to the military hospital Drugmulla for treatment. Meanwhile, the search operation is still on.
