Srinagar, Mar 24: Junaid Ashraf Wani, son of separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani’s successor, who went missing on Friday has joined Hizbul Mujahideen (HM). The revelation came after his picture wielding a rifle appeared on social media with the caption proclaiming he had joined the Hizbul Mujahideen, police said.

Brother of 26-year-old Wani on Friday came to a local police station and lodged a report of his brother being missing from his home. Wani’s father, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, succeded Geelani as chief of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat. Earlier this week, Sehrai was elected as the chief of Geelani’s party after Geelani decided to step down.

“Today his picture wielding an AK-47 rifle was circulated on the social media. A message posted with the picture said Junaid had joined the Hizb ul-Mujahideen (HM) militant outfit,” a police officer added. He added that the police is still trying to ascertain the facts.
