Kapil may have received praise for his bone-tickling performance but his act could land him in trouble back in India.
New Delhi, Feb 22: Kapil Sharma has seen numerous controversies in the past and the hugely popular comedian/actor may again have triggered a massive row by performing during the opening ceremony of Pakistan Super League 2018 T20 tournament in Dubai. Kapil, whose TV Show comedy Nights With Kapil Sharma – broke several TRP records, was seen poking fun at the Pakistani and other international cricket stars during the event which was held in Dubai on Wednesday (February 21) evening.

Kapil may have received praise for his bone-tickling performance but his act could land him in trouble back in India. India had banned participation of Pakistani cricketers in the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) in the wake of the 2008 Mumbai terror attack. India had also suspended bilateral cricketing ties with the neighbouring country since the dastardly attack planned and executed by Pakistan-based terrorist groups. Slamming the actor for his decision to perform for PSL-2018, Shiv Sena said Kapil Sharma is playing with India’s honour for earning some money. “Kapil Sharma is making a mockery of India’s honour. He just wants to earn money and doesn’t care about the country. We strongly condemn Sharma for performing during PSL,” Sena said.

Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) also hit out at Kapil Sharma. “He (Kapil) should be ashamed of himself. Pakistani cricketers are banned in IPL but he went there to perform. I used to be his ban but after this episode won’t watch any of his show and also urge people to do the same,” MNS spokesperson Amay Khopkar told Zee Media.
Sharma’s act has come at a time when Union Minister Babul Supriyo has called for a temporary ban on Pakistani artists for working in the Hindi film industry.
Supriyo, a singer-turned-politician, had said Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s voice in the song “Ishtehar” from “Welcome To New York” must be removed and dubbed by someone else as he was not able to comprehend the need or desire to cross the border for entertainment content at a time when tensions on the India-Pakistan border had escalated.

Asked why the issue was not raised when singer Atif Aslam crooned a number for “Tiger Zinda Hai”, Supriyo said in a press conference: ‘Dil Diyan Gallan’ is nice song. There is another nice song sung by Atif in ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’… My morals as an artist or sensibilities, I agree that artistes have no boundary”. “I definitely want to believe that and I do as an artiste but having said that where our soldiers are being brutally killed and their bodies are mutilated… If we can stop Pakistani players playing in IPL…. At a time when we have cornered Pakistan, even US is one step away from declaring Pakistan a terrorist nation… maybe it would have been nice if Bollywood showed solidarity and took a stand,” Supriyo added.
