Two months ago, Kargil war hero Capt. Saurabh Kalia’s father, N K Kalia, started a petition on change.org demanding that India should take Pakistan to International Court of Justice for torturing and murdering his son on June 9, 1999. The petition has received an overwhelming response, and more than 202,426 people have signed the petition thus far. Also Read- Army Chief Dalbir Singh Suhag pays homage to martyrs of Kargil war.

Thanking for the response N K Kalia few days back wrote, ”Overwhelmed, feeling proud & emboldened to find, over1.51 lakh of you have joined me in this fight for justice for my son, Saurabh & his 5 colleagues in about one month only. Many grateful thanks. But we need more people to make an impact. July 26 is Kargil Vijay Diwas and on this historic day, the whole Nation will remember and honour Kargil martyrs. This is good but not enough.”

Few months back N K Kalia wrote in the petition, ‘’My son was tortured. His eardrums were pierced with hot iron rods, eyes punctured, gouged out and genitals cut off. The Pakistan army burnt his body with cigarettes, broke most of his bones and teeth but he did not break his silence through this barbaric torture. They ultimately shot him dead. I am the proud father of Capt. Saurabh Kalia who laid down his life in Kargil war while being held as a prisoner of war by the Pakistani army.’’ Also Read- Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh pays tribute to Kargil martyrs.

The petition further reads, ‘’On June 9, 1999, Indian army received his brutally tortured body from the Pakistan army & flew it to Palampur after conducting detailed post-mortem in New Delhi. My son went down protecting this country but his patriotism, grit, and valour never deserted. Even after a lapse of 16 years, justice is still eluding.’’

Capt. Saurabh Kalia was killed during the Kargil War while being held as a prisoner of war by the Pakistani security forces. Along with five other soldiers of his patrolling team, Capt. Kalia was captured alive and then kept in captivity where they were tortured and then killed.

The slain Capt.’s father now has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ministry of External Affairs to take this case to the International Court of Justice. He appealed people to sign the petition and expects the support to grow on the Kargil Vijay Diwas, which falls on July 26. ‘’Sign my petition asking the PM Narendra Modi and Ministry of External Affairs to take this case to the International Court of Justice.”  You can read the full petition and sign for it here on change.org(Photo: Change.org).
