New Delhi, May 17: Nearly 15 months after the Goa Assembly Elections, the Congress party on Thursday said that it will stake claim to form the government in the state. The party is likely to march 16 of its MLAs to the Raj Bhawan tomorrow, News18 reported. Congress Goa in-charge Chella Kumar is expected to leave for Goa today and meet the Governor tomorrow. The development comes a day after Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala invited BJP’s Yeddyurappa to form government in the state.

“In 2017, we won 17 seats & were single largest party & continue to be but Governor chose to invite the BJP which had 13 seats. In Karnataka, Governor invited BJP as they are the single largest party. So, we appeal to Governor to invite us to form govt,” Yatish Naik, Congress, told ANI.

Soon after the development, Tejashwi Yadav requested the Bihar Governor to invite the RJD to form the government in the state. “We also request the Bihar Governor to dissolve the state government & like in Karnataka invite the single largest party, which in Bihar is the RJD,” Tejashwi Yadav said. Yadav further announced that the party would be holding a one-day dharna to protest against the “murder of democracy”.

In the March 2018 Goa Assembly polls, the Congress party had emerged as the single largest party but couldn’t form the government after the Bharatiya Janata Party gained the support of Goa Forward Party (GFP), Maharastrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and two Independents winning candidates to reach the magic figure of 21 in the 40-member house. Meanwhile, Congress launched another attack Karnataka Vajubhai Vala for inviting BS Yeddyurappa to form the government. Speaking at a press conference, Randeep Surjewala said, “Vajubhai vala had sacrificed his seat for Narendra Modi earlier, yesterday he sacrificed Constitution and democracy for him. He conducted 1st encounter of Constitution yesterday when he invited BJP to form govt. Today when he swore-in BS Yeddyurappa, he conducted its 2nd encounter.”
