Kashmir: 7 dead after Gondola tower in Gulmarg city collapses

Former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah took to Twitter to express sorrow over the loss of lives in this incident.

Kashmir: 7 dead after Gondola tower in Gulmarg city collapses

Gulmarg, June 25: Seven tourists have died after Gondola tower in Gulmarg city in Kashmir collapsed due to strong winds, reported news agency ANI. News reports suggest that cable car is stuck due to the accident. As of now, the rescue operations are underway.

 As per News Nation, five people who passed away in the accident are identified as Jayant Andraskar, Manshea Andraskar, Anagha Jayant Andraskar, Jahnvi Jayant Andraskar and Mukthar Ahmad Ganai. Four who passed away were from the same family dwelling in New Delhi.

As per NDTV, the gondola service of Gulmarg is immensely popular and attracts thousands of tourists during summer time.  In winters, tourists come here to enjoy ski slopes. Former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah took to Twitter to express sorrow over the loss of lives. He wrote,” What terrible news! If confirmed this will be the first such incident with the Gulmarg cable car. My heartfelt condolences to the families.”

Mr. Abdullah in another tweet expressed hope that rescue operations are moving at a faster pace. “I hope the rescue of the cabins that are now stuck goes ahead quickly without further incident. I believe upto 15 cabins are stranded,” Omar penned in his second tweet.
