New Delhi, April 13: Congress president Rahul Gandhi has instructed his party members to carry out a candle-light march in capitals of all the states, after rape incidents in Unnao and Kathua, reported news agency ANI.

On Thursday, Rahul Gandhi led a candlelight march till India Gate to protest over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the Kathua and Unnao rape cases. The candle-light procession started at 24 Akhbar road and ended at India Gate. His sister Priyanka Gandhi and brother-in-law Robert Vadra also accompanied him in the silent protest. Rahul on Friday thanked all those who participated in the protest to demand justice for the rape victims.

“Thousands of men and women stood up to be counted in the battle for justice and to protest the rising acts of violence against girls and women. I thank each and every one of you for your support. It shall not be in vain,” the Congress president tweeted.

Meanwhile, Omar Abdullah, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir asked PM Modi to break his silence over the Kathua rape and murder incident. An eight-year-old girl was abducted and raped over and over before being horrendously murdered by a group of men in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua. Reportedly, the girl was kept at a Devsthan or Hindu place of worship.

In Unnao, BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and his brother Atul Singh Sengar raped a 16-year-old teenager at their residence on June 4, 2017. The victim’s father was arrested by the police under Arms Act on April 3 and put in jail. The girl attempted self-immolation on April 8 in front of Yogi Adityanath’s residence to protest against inaction and shielding minister. Her father died in jail, the next day.
