Palakkad, April 16: The body of a two-day-old girl was recovered by plumbers trying to unclog a toilet here, say media reports. The incident occurred at the house of a doctor couple who run a clinic from there. On Friday, Dr Abdul Rahman, called plumbers in after his domestic help complained of muddy water and some obstruction in the toilet. When the plumbers tried unclogging the drain, something like a ball surfaced. On further prodding, it turned out to be the body of a girl. Pulling the body out was difficult as the placenta was still attached to it.
Early reports had suggested that her parents might have brought the infant on the pretext of a check-up and then flushed her down the toilet. However, police were also investigating if some woman delivered in the washroom itself. Police went through the records of all patients at the clinic. Based on the doctor’s complaint, police were also on the lookout for the couple, reported to be the infant’s parents. The couple is reportedly absconding. Meanwhile, some other reports suggested that police haven’t been able to identify the baby’s parents.
A policeman is reported to have said that the doctor couple’s house was located on a large plot which other houses nearby and that it was just 100 metres from the road so they were investigating all possibilities. A case of unnatural death has been registered and the body has been sent to a medical college in Thrissur for postmortem.
