With the numb eyes and heavy heart, the nation prepares to bid goodbye to their most loved former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. The body of the 83-year-old scientist who collapsed during his lecture at IIM Shillong and passed away on Monday, July 27 was flown to his 10 Rajaji Marg residence in Delhi with a special aircraft. But as per the wish of his family the last rites will take place in his native place Rameswaram on Thursday. The picture of his mortal remains has been shared by on Twitter and is going viral. The picture shows APJ Abdul Kalam’s body covered in the national flag. APJ Abdul Kalam who last tweeted about his visit to IIM Shillong and taking a lecture along with close aide Srijan Pal Singh suddenly took ill. He suffered from major cardiac arrest during his speech in the class and fell. Kalam’s body was then shifted to Delhi where high dignitaries and eminent personalities paid their last respects. President Pranab Mukherjee and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi received Dr Kalam’s body at Palam airport in Delhi with a guard of honour by the three services being held at the airport. “A large number of relatives, friends, well wishers and common people have gathered at Kalam’s house at Rameswaram,” APJ M.K. Sheik Saleem, the former President’s grandson told IANS over phone. The former President is survived by his older brother Mohd Muthu Meera Lebbai Maraicker, who is 99. The government has declared a seven-day national mourning as a mark of respect for the man known and loved across the country as the “People’s President”.
