New Delhi, Dec 7: Parliament is expected to enter its 16th day as Opposition’s unrest on demonetisation intensifies. Before the Parliament session, Opposition leaders today met and raised the need for discussion under rule 184 in Lok Sabha. In Rajya Sabha, problems faced by salaried employees and pensioners due to demonetisation will be discussed.
Parliament on Tuesday condoled the death of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa saying the country has lost a courageous leader. In her obituary reference, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan remembered Jayalalithaa as a “popular and eminent leader”. Ansari said her death was “an irreparable loss to India”. The House was adjourned for the day as a mark of respect to Jayalalithaa.
Parliament remained deadlocked and stalled due to stand-off between the Opposition and the government over demonetisation on the third week of the Winter session. Businesses in the house have been stalled due to the uproar created by Opposition in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. Ruckus in the Parliament continued as government expressed readiness to discuss the issue of members regarding.
On Monday, in the Lok Sabha, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said the government is ready for a debate. However, the session was adjourned after Congress members marched to the Well of the House shouting slogans against the government’s demonetisation policy. Later, Opposition demanded a debate under Rule 184, the government did not yield.
