Leaders of Opposition continued to raise slogans against demonetisation in Rajya Sabha

New Delhi, Dec 8: Continuous deadlock over demonetisation has been leading to wastage of Winter session of Parliament since it began. The government on Thursday dared the Opposition to have a debate on the issue rather than disrupting the proceedings. However,  a united Opposition demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s presence in the Parliament and talk about the distress faced by the people of the country.

Both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha failed to transact any substantive business amid Opposition’s uproar. Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabh were adjourned after Opposition shouted slogans against demonetisation. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said the Opposition was using the tactics of disruption on a daily basis and was not interest in resuming the discussion initiated on the first day of the Winter session on November 1. He said that the debate is yet to conclude.

While the government said that they had not wasted even a minute to agree to a debate on the issue. The government also agreed to the rule under which the debate is to be conducted as well as to the demand that the Prime Minister will participate in it, said, who is also Leader of the House. However, as treasury benches continued to shout slogans seeking discussion, the Opposition members raised slogans daring Modi to come to the House. Both the houses were adjourned without much businesses being discussed.
