Maharashtra civic elections 2017 Exit Poll Results: Tough contest for BMC, BJP ahead in Nagpur, Shiv Sena leads in Thane

Polling was held on Wednesday across ten municipal corporations in Maharashtra. Apart from BMC, polling was held in Pune, Thane, Pimpri Chinchwad, Nashik, Nagpur, Solapur, Amravati and other civic bodies. The exit polls were released by Axis-My India.

Maharashtra civic elections 2017 Exit Poll Results: Tough contest for BMC, BJP ahead in Nagpur, Shiv Sena leads in Thane

Mumbai, Feb 21: The exit polls for Maharashtra civic elections were released by India Today shortly after polling concluded. BJP is shown ahead in battle for Nagpur municipal corporation, whereas, the fight in Brihanmumbai Corporation (BMC) elections appears to be a tough contest. Shiv Sena is expected to bag 86-92 seats, whereas, the BJP is predicted to win 80-88 seats, bagging 32 percent of the vote share. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) is expected to grab 8 per cent of the votes, winning 3-7 seats, as per the My-Axis India survey.

Polling was held on Wednesday across ten municipal corporations in Maharashtra. Apart from BMC, polling was held in Pune, Thane, Pimpri Chinchwad, Nashik, Nagpur, Solapur, Amravati and other civic bodies.

Polling percentage in Mumbai was higher than the elections in 2012. While 45.3 per cent polling was recorded in the past year, the polling percentage has rose to 56.1 per cent in this polls.

The highlight of the civic elections was the bitter political fight between Shiv Sena and BJP across the state. The 25 year old alliance came on the brink of break-up, as Shiv Sena threatened to resign from the Devendra Fadnavis government ruling the state.

  • As per the survey, Shiv Sena and BJP are fighting a neck-to-neck battle in Mumbai. Shiv Sena is predicted to win 86-94 seats, whereas, the BJP is projected win 80-88 seats.
  • Both Shiv Sena and BJP re expected to grab 32 per cent of vote share in BMC. Raj Thackeray’s MNS is predicted to secure only 8 per cent of the vote share, winning 3-7 seats.
  • Shiv Sena is also leading in the Thane Municipal Corporation elections, as per the survey.
  • Sena is predicted to win 62-70 seats in TMC, whereas, the BJP is expected to emerge victorious on 26-35 seats. Congress is expected to be reduced to 2-6 seats, whereas, the NCP is predicted to hold on to 29-34 seats.
  • In Pune, BJP is expected to win 77-85 seats, whereas, the alliance of Congress and NCP is predicted to bag 60-66 seats. Shiv Sena is likely to retain 10-13 seats, claims the exit poll.
  • BJP is likely to retain its bastion Nagpur. BJP is expected to win 98-110 seats in Nagpur, whereas, the alliance of Congress is expected to bag 35-41 seats. Shiv Sena is expected to retain 2-4 seats, the exit poll predicts.

    However, MNS, Congress, NCP and other Opposition parties have been wiped away from the BMC, as per the My-Axis India Exit Poll. Congress, which won 52 seats in 2012, is expected to emerge victorious on only 30-34 seats.
