Maharashtra Corporation Election Results 2017: Shiv Sena takes control of BMC, TMC; BJP sweeps 8 other civic bodies

Mumbai, Feb 23: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged victorious at all the other eight municipal corporations barring Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) that went to polls on February 21. In Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls, the ruling Shiv Sena has registered victory by securing 84 seats out of total 227 seats. The BJP has gained the second position bagging 82 seats. Congress is at third position winning 31 seats, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) nine seats, AIMIM three seats and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) seven seats.
In Thane Municipal Corporation, the Shiv Sena has won 67 while NCP has won 34 seats out of 131 wards. The BJP has won 23 seats while AIMIM has opened its account in Thane by winning two seats. In Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation, the BJP is leading on 32 seats while the Shiv Sena is leading on 25 seats out of total 78 seats.
Polling for the 10 municipal corporations, including cash-rich BMC, TMC, PMC and NMC on February 21. As many as 17,331 candidates are in fray for 3210 seats up for grabs in 10 municipal corporations across Maharashtra. About 56 per cent voters had exercised franchise across 10 municipal corporations in the state. The 11 zilla parishads and 118 panchayat samiti polls recorded 69 per cent turnout.
