LIVE - Maharashtra Zilla Parishad & Panchayat Samiti Elections Results 2017:
Mumbai, Feb 23: Election results of all 25 Zilla Parishads and 118 Panchayat Samitis will be declared today. Out of the 25 Zilla Parishads, 11 Zilla Parishad voted on February 16 and the rest Zilla Parishads voted on February 21. In phase 1, a total of 855 seats were in play for Zilla Parishad polls and 1,712 seats were covered in the Panchayat Samitis poll whereas, in phase 2, a total of 191 Zilla Parishads and 382 Panchayat Samitis which included seats in Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara districts of South Maharashtra went to poll. The live updates of all the Zilla Panchayat and Zilla Parishads will be updated here. It is expected that the vote countings in 25 Zilla Parishad and 118 Panchayat Samitis will begin at 10 AM. The 25 Zilla Parishad that went to polls include Raigad Zilla Parishad, Ratnagiri Zilla Parishad, Sindhudurg Zilla Parishad, Pune Zilla Parishad, Kolhapur Zilla Parishad, Sangli Zilla Parishad, Satara Zilla Parishad, Kolhapur Zilla Parishad, Jalgaon Zilla Parishad, Nashik Zilla Parishad, Ahmednagar Zilla Parishad, Amravati Zilla Parishad, Vardha Zilla Parishad, Gadchiroli Zilla Parishad, Yawatmal Zilla Parishad, Buldhana Zilla Parishad, Pandharpur Zilla Parishad, Aurangabad Zilla Parishad, Hingoli Zilla Parishad,Parbhani Zilla Parishad, Usmanabad Zilla Parishad, Nanded Zilla Parishad, Latur Zilla Parishad, Jalna Zilla Parishad and Beed Zilla Parishad.
The Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections across Maharashtra state was held in two phases. Phase 1 was conducted on February 16 for a total of 855 seats for the Zilla Parishad while the Panchayat Samiti polls covered 1,712 seats on the same day. The phase 2 of Maharashtra Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti Elections were held on February 21 in which a total 191 Zilla Parishad seats and 382 panchayat Samiti seats in Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara districts of South Maharashtra went to the poll.
The key parties contesting in the state include Bharatiya Janata Party, Shiv Sena, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, Indian National Congress, Nationalist Congress Party and All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen. In Zilla Parishad polls, top leaders from state politics have fielded their next generation in the elections. The top candidates contesting in the Zilla Parishad polls include Dheeraj Deshmukh, the youngest son of former Chief Minister the late Vilasrao Deshmukh. Dheeraj is contesting the election from Latur. Rohit Pawar, grandson of Sharad Pawar is contesting from Baramati.
The other key candidates include the daughter of BJP state unit president Raosaheb Danwe who is contesting the elections from Jalna. Aditi Tatkare, daughter of NCP president Sunil Tatkare is contesting from Raigad. State minister Babanrao Lonikar from BJP has roped his son in the election whereas, in Beed district, Munde siblings are engaged in the battle for supremacy.
In Kolhapur, 21.38 lakh voters will decide the fate of 322 candidates contesting in 67 Zilla Parishad seats and 583 candidates contesting in the 134 Panchayat Samiti seats.
