Mumbai, May 26: The results of Malegaon Municipal Corporation election 2017 will be declared today. The counting of votes for the 84 seats spread across 21 wards of the Malegaon Municipal Corporation in Maharashtra is underway. The Malegaon Municipal Corporation election 2017 witnessed neck-and-neck fight between Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress. The Malegaon Municipal Corporation is currently ruled by the NCP-led alliance. The NCP is facing a tough challenge from the Congress this time. Polling for the Malegaon Municipal Corporation election 2017 was held on May 24. The polling recorded 59.62 per cent voter turnout. To take on Congress, the NCP has formed an alliance with Janata Dal (Secular). As per the seat-sharing pact, the NCP is contesting on 52 seats, while its ally JDS is fighting the election on 16 seats. The Congress fielded 54 candidates, BJP 58, Shiv Sena 26 and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) 37.

Polling is also underway for the Panvel City Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and Bhiwandi-Nizampur City Municipal Corporation election results 2017. While the Panvel City witnessed its first ever municipal corporation election after it came into existence in October last year, the Bhiwandi-Nizampur City Municipal Corporation is ruled by the Congress-led alliance.
