Indian Railways Recruitment 2018

New Delhi, March 22: After receiving numerous complaints of overpricing by the IRCTC registered vendors, the Ministry of Railway on Tuesday released the menu on Twitter. The Ministry requested the passengers to complaints to the authorities if they are overcharged for the food items in the list. The tweet by the Ministry of Railways reads, “Know the rate list of @IRCATERING in case of any discrepancies must reported to @RailMinIndia: We work for you 24×7.”

The move seems to pacify the disgruntled passengers who have been flooding the social media with the complaints of bad quality food served during the journey. Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), a public sector unit under Ministry of Railways has been overlooking the quality of food items.

As per existing terms, the vendors registered by IRCTC are expected to serve the good quality food items to passengers along with displaying menu card. However, the complaints by the passengers suggest that the practice has been abandoned by the majority of vendors. In order to curb the malpractice of overpricing, Railway minister Suresh Prabhu ordered a review of all catering services. He also ordered officials to blacklist the vendors indulged in corrupt practices.

In an earlier development, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu announced the new catering policy in February. The policy made a monumental change in policy directions in a separation of food production and distribution.

The announcement by the Railway Ministry said,”In this new catering policy, food production and food distribution will be delinked. This will be a marriage between the best of both worlds. Food can be cooked anywhere like the state-of-the-art kitchens of IRCTC in a hygienic manner using mechanised system. Food can be distributed using professionals from the hospitality industry.”

In order to enhance the experience of the passengers, the Ministry is also mulling over options for establishing food outlets by prominent hoteliers under the Public Private Partnership model.

“IRCTC would begin to manage catering service in a phased manner. IRCTC would unbundle catering services,” Prabhu had announced in the 2016-17 Rail Budget.
