Modi in America: US aid to Pak in PM-Trump talks, officials working over time for F-16 deal

New Delhi, June 23: Terrorism emanating from Pakistan and the diversion of US aid to anti-India activities by Pakistan can feature in talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump, government hinted on Thursday. Apart from that, officials are burning the midnight oil to prepare all the necessary documents for F-16 fighter jet deal between the two countries.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Gopal Bagley told TOI that it was safe to assume that matters related to regional and global security would be discussed. He said terrorism emanating from there affects India and other countries and India talks to its friends about cross-border and international terrorism. When asked about the use of US aid for anti-India activities, he said that India had been raising these concerns time and again.

Meanwhile, officials of both the sides are hammering out details of the F-16 fighter jet deal. They are working on the framework for the deal to be completed before Modi flies to Washington on Saturday. According to reports, details are being finalised so that India is in compliance with the US law on proprietary tech, reported the Economic Times.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump will meet in Washington as the Indian PM visits the country on June 25-26. A host of issues including defence partnership, fight against terror, climate change and fight against terrorism can come up in the important meeting. Though H1B visa is not on the official agenda, India can still raise its concerns.Commerce Secretary Rita Teaotia told Money Control that this is one of the issues on the discussion table. The United States contributes 60% of the total $120 billion Indian IT industry. This will be the first meeting between Donald Trump and PM Modi.
