Muslim girl from Karnataka tops in Ramayana exam, scores 93%

Mangaluru, February 12: A 13-year-old girl from Karnataka has set a good example of religious tolerance across the country after she secured first place in the Ramayana Exam. The girl identified as Fatimath Rahila lives in Puttur district of Karnataka, which is always troubled by communal problems.

The class 9 student studying at Sarvodaya High School at Sulliapadavu, located at the Karnataka-Kerala border belongs to a pious Muslim family. The girl topped in the examination which was held in November 2015, conducted by the Bharatha Sanskriti Prathisthan.

According to school authorities, the student was keen on pursuing course in the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. On which Rahila’s uncle supported her, Times of India report said.

Her father Ibrahim M is a worker in a factory based in their home town and her mother is a homemaker. The couple wanted their daughter to pursue her career as per her wish. Read Also: (Muslim girl Mariyam Asif Siddiqui wins Bhagwad Gita contest)

Report suggests that Rahila, a committed student developed her interest in epic Hindu literature in class 9.

“With my uncle’s help I prepared for exams,” Rahila said to TOI. After securing first position in Ramayana the girl is preparing for the Mahabharata exam too for which she has decided to sacrifice her summer vacations.

Last year a 12-year-old girl from Mumbai, Mariyam Asif Siddiqui topped in Bhagwad Gita competition organised by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). She received the first prize in an inter-school competition for explaining the teachings of the holy book.

Study reveals that irrespective of communal polarisation in India most of the students across the country are interested to know about other religions apart from their inherited ones.
