Mustafa Dossa, Abu Salem convicted in 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case

Mumbai, June 16: A Special TADA Court on Friday found deported mafia don Abu Salem, Mustafa Dossa and four others guilty in the March 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case. Accused Mustafa Dossa has been found guilty of all changes, including conspiracy, in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case. Abu Salem was also found guilty of all charges. Mustafa Dossa was found guilty of conspiracy, murder and terror activities in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case.

Other accused Firoz Abdul Rashid Khan, Karimullah Khan and Tahir Merchant were also held guilty. Accused Firoz Khan convicted under charges of conspiracy and murder under sections of IPC, TADA and Explosives Act. All accused were acquitted of the charge of waging war against the nation. Accused Abdul Quayyum was acquitted in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case.

A separate hearing in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case began in 2007, but was delayed after Mustafa Dossa, Abu Salem and CBI filed petition in the Supreme Court. The trail finally started in 2012. The trial against gangsters Abu Salem, Mustafa Dosa, Karimullah Khan, Firoz Abdul Rashid Khan, Riyaz Siddiqui, Tahir Merchant and Abdul Quayyum was kept separate as they were arrested later. The trial has seen 64 prosecuted witnesses while 48 defence witnesses have also been presented in court. Earlier, in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case, the special court had convicted 100 accused, including Yakub Abdul Razak Memon or Yakub Memon who was hanged on July 30, 2015. Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt was also convicted, but let off the terrorism charges and tried under the Arms Act. Sanjay Dutt served his full sentence and released from jail February 2016.

On the afternoon of March 12, 1993, a series of 13 blasts rocked Mumbai city, leaving 257 people dead and another 700 plus injured. The bomb blasts were masterminded by absconder mafia don Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar and carried out by his henchmen, absconder Tiger Memon and others.
