Saharanpur, April 17: The Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) continued on Tuesday its raids on the residences of Muzaffarpur SSP Vivek Kumar over the disproportionate assets case against him. The raids have been on since Monday evening. According to reports, at least three of Kumar’s properties have been raided since then.

The senior official is reported to have amassed wealth almost 300 percent more than his declared income. Prabhat Khabar reported that demonetised currency worth Rs 45,000 was recovered during the raid. Cash amounting to Rs 6 lakh and jewellery worth Rs 5.5 lakh has also been recovered, reported the newspaper. The IPS officer has his paternal property in Saharanpur while his in-laws are in Muzaffarnagar and the SVU conducted raids at these properties as well. Kumar allegedly also carried out transactions worth lakhs through bank accounts of his wife and siblings. The team also recovered some important insurance documents. Vigilance sources said raids were on at several places.

“A team of SVU conducted raids at the residences of Vivek Kumar in connection with the disproportionate assets case,” SVU Inspector General Ratan Sanjay confirmed to PTI over the phone from Muzaffarpur.
