Agartala, Feb 12: The 60-Assembly constituencies in Tripura are all set to go to polls. Voting for Nalchar (SC), Sonamura, Dhanpur, Ramchandraghat (ST) and Khowai Assembly seats will be held on February 18. The results of Nalchar (SC), Sonamura, Dhanpur, Ramchandraghat (ST) and Khowai Assembly seats will be announced on March 3. Tripura Assembly Elections 2018 will see a tough contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Indian National Congress (INC). Manik Sarkar of the CPI(M) has been the Chief Minister of the state since 1998. The term of current Tripura Assembly ends on March 14.

Nalchar (SC)

Nalchar (SC), constituency number 21 in Tripura, will go to polls on February 18. The seat was won by Tapan Chandra Das of the CPI(M) against Uttar Das of the Indian National Congress (INC) in 2013 Tripura Assembly Elections. It is reserved for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes. In Tripura Assembly Elections 2018, the seat will witness a contest between Tapan Das of Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M), Subhash Chandra Das of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rakesh Das of the Indian National Congress (INC).

Sonamura

Sonamura, constituency number 22, is currently held by CPI(M)’s Shyamal Chakraborty. He had won it against INC’s Subal Bhowmik in 2013 Tripura Assembly Elections by over 2,00 votes. In Tripura Assembly Elections 2018, the seat will witness a tough contest between Shyamal Chakraborty of Communist Party of India (Marxist), Subal Bhowmik of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Majibur Islam Majumder of the Indian National Congress (INC). The  seat will go to polls on February 18 and the results will be announced on March 3.

Dhanpur

Dhanpur, constituency number 23, is currently held by CPI(M)’s Manik Sarkar. He had won it against INC’s Shah Alam in 2013 Tripura Assembly Elections. In Tripura Assembly Elections 2018, the seat will witness a tough contest between Manik Sarkar of Communist Party of India (Marxist), Pratima bhowmik of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Lakshmi Nag of the Indian National Congress (INC). Dhanpur will go to polls on February 18 and the results will be announced on March 3.

Ramchandraghat (ST)

Ramchandraghat (ST), constituency number 24, is reserved for Scheduled Tribe candidates. It was won by CPI(M)’s Padma Kumar Debbarma in 2013 Tripura Assembly elections against Independent candidate Animesh Debbarma. For Tripura Assembly Elections 2018, the CPI(M) has announced Padma Debbarma as its candidate whereas, Congress has fielded Tarani Mohan Debbarma from the seat. Ramchandraghat (ST) will witness polls on February 18 and the results will be declared on March 3.

Khowai

Khowai, constituency number 25, was won by Samir Debsarkar of the CPI(M) in 2013 against INC’s Dipak Majumdar. In 2016, Khowai bye-elections were held following the death of the sitting MLA Samir Deb. The seat was then won Biswajit Datta of the CPI(M) against Manoj Das of TMC. On February 18, Biswajit Datta will fight the Tripura Assembly Elections 2018 for CPI(M) against Amit Rakhsit of the BJP and Ajoy Ch Das of the Congress. The results will be announced on March 8.

In February 2013, Tripura Assembly Elections were held in a single phase. The CPI (M) had won 49 out of the 60 assembly seats whereas, the Congress won 10 seats.
