Mumbai, Oct 13: Shiv Sena on Friday said Congress’ victory in Nanded Waghala Municipal Corporation election shows Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) can be defeated. In its mouthpiece Saamana, Shiv Sena said that the Congress decimated BJP in Nanded like Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) did in Delhi Assembly polls. The BJP roped in all tall leaders including Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis but failed to achieve desired results, stated Saamana.
“Ashok Chavan put a speed-breaker on the winning streak of the BJP. The victory in Nanded will surely boost the morale of Congress party,” Shiv Sena wrote in Saamana. “The Nanded civic poll results came as a big setback for the BJP, which has been dreaming of Congress-mukt India. The outcome sends a message that BJP can be defeated,” stated the editorial.
Shiv Sena said the BJP all means and gave tickets to rebels of other parties to dethrone Congress. “The BJP sent all its big leader and embraced rebels of other parties to wrest power. However, nothing saved them from defeat,” Sena said. The party said while the BJP failed to win with outsiders, Ashok Chavan-led Congress effectively used rebels of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen or AIMIM to ensure its victory.
“The Congress gave six tickets to AIMIM-turncoats and all of them won the election. Wiping out AIMIM, Ashok Chavan showed how to reach out to other communities along with Muslim and Dalit voters,” Shiv Sena said in Saamana. The party also said it will introspect its performance in Nanded civic polls.
The Congress on Thursday bagged the prestigious Nanded Waghala Municipal Corporation, bagging a staggering 73 of the 81 seats. The opposition led by BJP bagged six seats while its ruling ally in the centre and the state, Shiv Sena, got just one seat. An independent candidate also won.
