The Nanded Waghala Municipal Corporation election is a battle of prestige for the former Maharashtra Chief Minister and current state Congress unit president Ashok Chavan, whose father late Shankarrao Chavan had nurtured the constituency over years. In 2012, the Congress had come to power with 41 seats. Shiv Sena with 12 seats was a distant second, followed by Asaduddin Owaisi’s All India Majlis-e-Muslimeen (AIMIM) with 11 seats. While the NCP won 10 seats, the BJP bagged just two seats.
