Hyderabad, July 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit to Telangana on August 7 to participate in various programmes. This will be Modi’s first visit to the India’s newest state since assuming office over two years ago. Telangana, which celebrated its second anniversary last month, had been waiting for the prime minister’s visit.

According to official sources, Modi will visit three districts to participate in four programmes during his day-long visit. At Gajwel in Medak district, he will formally launch Mission Bhageeratha, Telangana government’s flagship programme aimed at providing piped drinking water to every household in the state. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, during his meeting with Modi earlier this week in New Delhi, had invited him to visit the state to launch the programme in his native district. The prime minister will lay foundation stone for two additional 1,600 MW (2 X 800 MW) power plants by the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) at Ramagundam in Karimnagar district. He will also lay foundation stone for the revival of Fertilizer Corporation of Indian (FCI) as Ramagundam Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited (RFCL) in the same town. The coal operated sick FCI was closed in 1999.

Modi will also visit Warangal district where he will lay foundation stone for a textile park. The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government plans to develop this as India’s largest textile park. The chief minister had said recently that the proposed ‘cotton-to-garment’ park will be set up in an area of 2,000-3,000 acres.
