Kerala, May 20: A Navy cadet alleged physical and mental harassment by seniors, trainers in a suicide note before he took his life on Wednesday. The 26-year-old G Sooraj belonged to Tirur in Malappuram district. He succumbed to injuries as he jumped off a building at the Ezhimala Naval Academy.
A senior north Kerala cop said that four trainers whose names were penned by Sooraj in his suicide note will be booked for abetting suicide. The cop also informed the authorities of the Naval academy about it. The perturbed family of the young boy, as per Hindustan Times, quashed reports of suicide accusing Naval officers behind the incident. Sooraj’s sibling confidently said that he was a fighter and will not take such a step.
On this incident, the Naval Academy issued a statement saying the 26-year-old was found unconscious and wasn’t responding, after seeing this he was immediately transferred to the ICUof the naval medical unit. From there Sooraj boarded the ambulance of Pariyaram medical college hospital where he suffered a heart attack the very next day.
In 2010, Sooraj was inducted into the Navy as a sailor. In 2013, he passed the officers test and joined Indian Naval Academy (INA) in Ezhimala near Kannur. “Many officers did not like Sooraj and used to harass him often,” said relatives of the young boy. They also stated that senior officers used to harass him citing indiscipline. From NIA, in 2015, Sooraj was terminated but later the Armed Forces Tribunal brought him back.
Sooraj joined the academy again in January 2017.
