Floor Test: Happy That Nitish Kumar Won Vote of Confidence, Says Sushil Modi
Noteworthy, to obtain majority in the 243-member Bihar Assembly, the JD(U)-BJP alliance needs the support of 122 legislators.
Patna, July 28: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is all set to face a floor test in the Assembly at 11 am on Friday to prove majority in house. Noteworthy, to obtain majority in the 243-member Bihar Assembly, the JD(U)-BJP alliance needs the support of 122 legislators. Kumar took oath as Chief Minister on Thursday after resigning from the post and breaking free from Mahagathbandhan on Wednesday.
Kumar is expected to pass the floor test with support of 132 MLAs – 71 from JD(U) and 58 from BJP and allies but, as per reports, if rebellion from the Dalit and Muslim MLAs in JD(U) is there then the JD(U)-BJP alliance would fail to cross the majority mark of 122.
In 2015, during Bihar state elections, it was Lalu Prasad’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) which emerged as the single-largest party with 80 seats. The second position was secured by the JD(U) that won 71 seats, followed by the BJP which won 53 seats and the Congress with 27 seats.
Earlier on Thursday, Nitish Kumar took oath as Bihar CM amid dissident from various JD(U) leaders. Party stalwart Sharad Yadav said that the JD(U) chief has taken the decision of breaking free from the Mahagathbandhan in haste. Another leader, Ali Anwar questioned Kumar’s re-alliance with the BJP. “This is the same communal party from which we distanced away. What has changed since then?” he asked.
Meanwhile, expressing confidence, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday said that Nitish Kumar will pull off the floor test easily and prove majority in the house.
