New Delhi, Mar 27: At least four notices of no-confidence against the Modi government are expected to be brought before the Lok Sabha when the House meets today. All eyes will be on All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) after the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) called off its protest in Parliament. The two parties have been disrupting the proceedings on various demands.

The TRS, which has been protesting in Parliament by going into the well of the House for the past 15 days, was demanding the power to increase the quota of reservations be given to states, while the AIADMK MPs wants the Centre to set up a Cauvery Management Board in keeping with the Supreme Court’s order on sharing of the river waters.

Members of the two parties have been surrounding Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan’s dais holding placards whenever she called MPs to stand up so that the numbers could be counted to see how many supported the no-confidence motion. The Speaker maintained that she is unable to make out who have risen in support of the no-confidence motion in the din and disruption. Since the TRS has called off their protest, there is a possibility of notice for no-confidence motion being taken up.

On Monday, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI(M) became the fourth party to give notice for a no-confidence motion against the government in the Lok Sabha. Congress had given the notice on Friday in addition to two such notices from Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and YSR Congress. The government has so far maintained that it is ready for any of the no-confidence motions being taken up.

“We are ready as there is no issue with our numbers and we have a lot to say. We have not been able to make our point on issues like the bank scam or stealing of data as Parliament is stalled,” Minister of State for parliamentary affairs Vijay Goel was quoted as saying. The Lok Sabha is being adjourned almost daily and the opposition parties are not able to bring the no-confidence motion against the Centre.
