Odisha Panchayat Election Results 2017: All updates on fourth phase
In the fourth phase of the of the Odisha Panchayat elections, a total of 28 districts when to polls amidst tight security.
Odisha, February 19: The phase four of the Odisha Panchayat elections wild draw to a close today. The results of the voting will start coming in from 1 PM. While the Odisha State Election Commission will only announce the results later next week, early trends will indicate the performance of the various political parties.
The five-phase elections are being held to elect representatives for 853 Zilla Parishad members, 6,802 Sarpanches, 6,801 Panchayat Samiti members and 92,052 ward members. Out of the 853 Zilla Parishad seats, 50 percent. In the fourth phase of the of the Odisha Panchayat elections, a total of 28 districts when to polls amidst tight security.
The elaborate security measures also include the provision of armed police officers by district superintendents of police to each party partaking in the elections.The fourth phase will decide on the fate of 161 representatives. The initial number of 162 representatives was reduced after the death of a Zilla Parishad candidate in Gania zone in Nayagarh district.
The results are expected to show a significant increase in the vote share of the BJP. The third phase of the Odisha Panchayat elections saw the BJP winning 67 seats, a ten-fold increase from the party’s performance in 2012. Meanwhile, the Biju Janata Dal is seeing a wave of anti-incumbency hitting the party.
Meanwhile, in the Congress party, that managed to secure merely 17 seats in the third phase of the Panchayat elections, is seeing frictions within the party. Just this morning, Congress’ MLA from Sundargarh, Jogesh Singh, blamed AICC leaders and the PCC chief for the abysmal performance of the party.
While the names of the winning ward members and sarpanches will be announced by the SEC on February 23, the mames of winning Zilla Parishad members and Panchayat Samiti members will be declared on February 25. The impressive performance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) continued in the fourth phase of the Odisha Panchayat elections 2017 as the saffron party won 62 Zilla Parishad seats out of the total 162 seats went to polls in this phase. The Biju Janata Dal, however, maintained its lead, bagging 84 Zilla Parishad seats. Congress could win just 7 seats, reported OTV. Polling for the fifth phase of the Odisha Panchayat elections 2017 will take place on February 21. The official announcement of the result will be made on February 25.
