Over 80,000 GSTR-3B Uploaded Every Hour on GST Network: GSTN Chairman Ajay Bhushan Pandey

New Delhi, September 20: GSTN Chairman Ajay Bhushan Pandey on Wednesday said over 80,000 GSTR-3B is being uploaded every hour as businesses have flocked to the GST Network portal on the last day of filing initial returns for the month of August. Pandey added that the businesses have time till midnight to file August returns in GSTR-3B form. He also added the network is geared up to take the load.

Highlights

  • This is the second month of GSTR-3B filing since the Goods and Services Tax (GST) was rolled out on July 1.
  • In July, over 47 lakh returns in GSTR-3B were filed.
  • During filing of GST-3B for July, GSTN faced glitches, due to which the government had to extend the due date for filing of returns.

Chairman Pandey, who was appointed as the GSTN Chairman earlier this month, said the GSTN system is working smoothly. Noteworthy that, this is the second month of GSTR-3B filing since the Goods and Services Tax (GST) was rolled out on July 1.

“Currently GSTN system is working smoothly and accepting more than 80,000 GSTR-3B returns per hour,” he said. As per an earlier report, till September 16, 3.5 lakh taxpayers had filed GSTR-3B for August.

In July, over 47 lakh returns in GSTR-3B were filed and the tally is expected to be more or less similar for August as well. Reportedly, taxes amounting to Rs 95,000 crore were collected in July itself.

GSTN is responsible for building the IT backbone for the GST regime and was expecting maximum load to arrive towards the last date. During filing of GST-3B for July, GST Network faced glitches, which forced the government to extend the due date for filing of returns.

The GST Council had earlier this month decided to set up a Group of Ministers to sort out the various problem faced by businesses while filing returns and paying taxes on GSTN portal. Following the first meeting of this GoM last week, the Council chairman and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi said that 25 key issues have been identified and there would be visible changes on the GSTN portal within 10 days.

GSTR-3B is a simple return which eases compliance burden for businesses. However, even after filing it, businesses will be required to upload invoices and file final returns in the GSTR-1, 2 and 3 forms within a stipulated date.
