Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Elections Results 2017 Live News Updates: BJP leads in 78 seats
Approximately 67 percent of the Pimpri-Chinchwad residents cast their votes for the municipal corporation polls, a number which remains the highest among all the ten municipal corporations that had gone to polls.
Maharashtra, February 23: The results for the 2017 Municipal Corporation Elections in Pimpri Chinchwad are expected to be announced today by the Maharashtra State Election Commission. The results remain of particular importance keeping in mind the very high voter turnout for the polls.
Approximately 67 percent of the Pimpri-Chinchwad residents cast their votes for the municipal corporation polls, a number which remains the highest among all the ten municipal corporations that had gone to polls. The voter turnout for the PCMC polls is also a quantum leap from the 52 percent recorded from the same region in 2012.
According to a report in the IE, Yeshwant Mane, chief of the PCMC’s election department, is reported to have commented on the high voter turnout and said, “The polling was peaceful and smooth. There were some incidents of EVMs malfunctioning, but they were sorted out quickly. It is a big achievement.” Meanwhile, Municipal Commissioner Dinesh Waghmare added, “We had put in our best efforts to increase the voting percentage. We had predicted that polling would be around 70 per cent and it has been along expected lines.”
The polling in Pimpri-Chinchwad was held across 32 panels to elect 128 corporators. According to the Zee 24 Taas Exit poll predictions, it is expected that the Nationalist Congress pArty will sweep the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation polls by winning between 60 to 65 seats out of the net 128.
Meanwhile, the Shiv Sena is expected to win 22-27 seats, the Congress 0-1 seats, the BJP 35-40 seats and the MNS is expected to win a maximum of one seat. The other category candidates, though, are expected to secure between 2 to 5 seats in the municipal corporation polls. Similar results were expected as per predictions of the India Today-Axis Survey.
Over 1.95 crore voters would have decided the fate of those contesting the municipal corporation elections, while, over 1.80 crore people would have exercised their franchise to determine the results Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti polls. This would also include the results of the cash-rich Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections 2017.
