New Delhi, Apr 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday condoled the death of 29 people, including 26 children, who died when their bus plunged into a 100-feet-deep gorge in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. The incident occurred in Nurpur area of the district when the driver lost control of the vehicle.
The Prime Minister Office (PMO) took to Twitter and said, “I am deeply anguished by the loss of lives due to a bus accident in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh. My prayers and solidarity with those who lost their near and dear ones in the accident: PM @narendramodi”
Congress President Rahul Gandhi wrote on Twitter that he was deeply saddened by the accident that claimed 29 lives. He urged Congress workers to help the bereaved families.
“I’m deeply disturbed and saddened by the bus accident in Himachal, that has claimed many lives, including those of 26 children,” he wrote.
“I urge our Congress party workers in Himachal to provide all the assistance they can, to the families of the victims and to those who are injured,” he added.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur informed that he spoke to the chief secretary, DG, and deputy commissioner. He said the NDRF was deployed immediately for rescue and relief. The rescue operation was underway with the help of locals. A magisterial probe was ordered. He announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the bereaved families.
Eyewitnesses said the driver lost control of the vehicle due to which it skidded into the gorge. As per the report, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team along with police, volunteers, doctors rushed to the spot. Locals also came forward to help children and others.
