Says his government plans to reach 5 crore BPL families with LPG connections by 2019, give tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anneversary

Ballia/Lucknow, May 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Ballia of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday and launched the Pradhanmantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). PM Modi said that his government is working to reach five crore BPL families with LPG connections by 2019, when the nation will celebrate the 150 birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Launching the PMUY at eastern Uttar Pardesh’s Ballia district on Sunday, Modi echoed his government’s take on development of poor people in India. He thanked all the 1 crore 10 lakh people who gave up their subsidy so that women in the rural regions can get the gas connections. He said. “I would like to thank all the 1 crore 10 lakh people who have given up the subsidy on LPG voluntarily after my appeal. This is an example of how people help in development of the country.”

Modi informed that those who will leave the subsidy, the amount will be sent directly for the distribution of gas connections for the BPL families. He also said that the gas connection will be registered in women’s name and the subsidy amount will go in he Jan Dhan account directly, so that she could be benefited. Modi recalled that since the inception of gas cylinder in India, only 13 crore poor people accessed to has cylinders, but his government is just one year has made the reach of gas connections to over 3 crore people. Speaking on the labour issues on International Labour Day, Modi said, “We have gathered here on Labour Day. I laud the hardwork of all Shramiks and appreciate their role in the progress of India. In this century our Mantra should be: all Shramiks of the world let’s make the world one. Unite the world.” He reiterated that his government is working for welfare of the poor and have brought changes that would suit the modern day requirements of labours, including provident fund, pensions, and appropriate salary.

Concluding his speech Modi said that connectivity and electricity remain very big issues in the development of rural areas. His governemet has focussed on the development of infrastructure in the rural parts. He said, “Connectivity in this region, rail lines, bridges…these issues were ignored but I congratulate all local MPs for ensuring this changes.” Modi ensured the rail and road bridges will be constructed over The Ganges for smooth development and electricity will reach to all the villages by 2019. He said, “I can now say with immense satisfaction that we made a decision on budget allocation for Tarighat-Ghazipur-Mau rail line.”
